Cancelled my TV..looking for the best box!

by Tim_tank_003

I love watching my sports and a few TV shows but didn't want to pay the 100$ a month for that...I'm looking for an android box that is capable of giving me LIVE tv or atleast live sports along with a TON of quality tv shows (updated ones like simpsons, family guy, south park etc).

Another thing if possible..getting these in HD quality.

Thanks in advance!!

Sounds like your after something this sub doesnt provide.

AndroidTV is googles official OS running on devices like the nvidia shield tv or some sony tv's

Then theres generic boxes that run mobile android with some basic TV UI typically loaded with kodi addons or illegal iptv that stops working a few months after you buy it.

Trying to beat $100 a month does give you some options.

First, check tvfool.com to see what kind of over the air television stations you can get with an antenna. You can post it here (they provide a share link) and we can advise on the best antenna, and let you know what you can expect.

You can use a HD Homerun and a Nvidia Shield for what this sub believes is the best combination. The HD Homerun accepts the antenna input and then distributes the channels over your internal network. The Nvidia Shield can connect to your TV and display those channels. The HD Homerun also has the option of a DVR, but you need some kind of storage for it - either a NAS, a computer, etc. The DVR from them is $35 a year, so it's cheap. Once you pay for the hardware (antenna, HD Homerun, Nvidia Shield), which should be within 4 to 5 months, your cost for this set up is just that $35 a year.

Then you can investigate the streaming services that give you things like cable channels (ESPN, etc.). They run from $40 to $65 a month from companies like SlingTV, PSVue, or the HD Homerun's own $35 a month streaming service called "Premium TV".

There are other solutions that might work for you. If the SlingTV service appeals to you then they have a box that will accept antenna input and combine your antenna stations with the SlingTV channels. There is a DVR option for that too. Amazon just announced a device similar to the HD Homerun that works with Fire TV devices, so your Fire TV device will show the antenna channels and have DVR functions, while letting you stream the streaming services through apps. There is another device similar to this called the Tablo. All of these are not really official Android TV boxes; they are similar in function, though.

I own a Channel Master Stream+ that is new, and runs Android TV, but it does not yet have Netflix or Amazon Prime apps. The DVR is pretty solid though. I have "side loaded" Amazon Prime on it and it works really well (side loading is a more complicated installation process). I wouldn't recommend this one as of yet, as it's still early in it's life, and is missing a couple of features (they are promised by year end).

Get a Shield TV, an antenna, and a subscription to YouTubeTV or PS Vue or Hulu Live or Sling or DirecTV Now.

Check out a streaming service like YouTube TV or PS Vue. Both work well on Android TV.

Get a Nvidia Shield. Download Kodi app. Download Xenon to Kodi (google it), Get a subscription to real debrid, (google it). Be happy that you didnt listen to the whiners in this sub crying about illegal services.
