Keeping track of which episodes of shows that I've watched

by smoelheim

I've been on a rant about this lately. There's no way to do this on Roku or FireTV, and you need a 3rd party app on Apple TV. Please, help convince me to go AndroidTV here.

In my mind, the best part of my Tivo Roamio (for OTA recording) is the ability to turn it on, and be presented with a list of unwatched episodes of shows that I have recorded. No thought required, no opening up apps looking for unwatched episodes, no need to know when a new season is on. New stuff just "shows up".

Does AndroidTV have an equivalent? For example, lets say that I watch Shameless on Netflix, The Last Ship on TNT, and The Goldbergs on ABC. I would have all of those apps installed on my AndroidTV. I would like ONE interface to go to, which says, "Hey, you have new episodes of these shows that you subscribe to!" I'm too lazy to open up each of 20 different apps to see what has a new episode.

I'm very familiar with every other streaming platform, but not so much with AndroidTV. So tell me /r/AndroidTV ... is this possible?

Thanks!

I use trakt on my phone/iPad.

The tv app for apple tv does this and it comes installed on the box by apple. I'm not sure of anything for Android tv.

Android TV Oreo has a "next" feature built right into the desktop. Works with HBO, Showtime, Hulu, Netflix... more.

Would series guide not allow you to do this with trakt integration. I'm pretty sure you can select plugins which would be the HBO app etc to launch from. I do this for terrarium but it list other apps for plugins. Might give that a go.

Well there's a Play Next row that you might find useful. Other than that I think everyone else just puts in the minuscule effort of using their brain to say "I feel like watching _____" and then opening the corresponding app. As lazy as you sound, I'm surprised you don't have someone turn the TV on for you.

What you’re describing doesn’t exist and probably never will. Not only that, but you’re far from what would even be close. Your best bet is to go the Plex/Kodi route and using your own media or using something like Terrarium (soon to be defunct). That’s the best way to have total control.

The first step is moving away from the sandbox apps that handicap your viewing experience. I get that it’s “moral” but it’s also inferior, as your frustrations prove. Feeding the beast only encourages it to stay inferior. They won’t fix it because your subscription fees tell them it’s not broken. Speak with your wallet since they’re not listening to your words.

Scoff at 3rd party tools all you want but they’re really your only option.

Android Oreo kinda does this (I have Mi Box) because of channels. It always has the last show watched listed first on the home screen provided the app supports it, Netflix does for example.
