Should I install kodi on MiBox?

by Rapsay

Should I install Kodi on my MiBox? Or should I just use something like VLC? (I've got a NAS with music and video's on it)

Edit (to answer some questions): I have a 1080p tv, stereo sound system with a baas box. I enjoy watching movies, preferably in high quality. I also listen to music. My internet is around 50 megabit per second, but I do have to share it sometimes. And I'll use Google cast to watch normal TV. (ITV app on phone)

It will cost you absolutley nothing to install it. Kodi is great, you should check it our for yourself.

First off let me say I run 2 Nvidia Shields instead of MiBox, but with that out of the way. I use Kodi on both my boxes for streaming my IPTV service and epg , streaming my dvd backups and music library from google drive. Streaming my dvr videos that are recorded on my pc. And use it to watch my OTA antenna.

Used to use plex and plex server but just wouldn’t give me what I wanted at the time, got tired of waiting at times upto 90 minutes for my library to update every time I added content, vs Kodi where as new content shows up as soon as I refresh the folder

Granted plex may be able to do more, but I just prefer Kodi

It depends on what you want to use it for. With Kodi you can install a wide range of addons. Some use Kodi for streaming of piracy TV, TV shows and movies. Some even use Kodi to stream 4K HDR movies.

Kodi works awesome on Mi Box definitely install it. I recommend just using Kodi v18 beta at this point, been using it for months now. For playing a quick file off a flash drive or something VLC is still great though.

Not sure about the music, but a simple organizer and player for tv and movies is archos video player. Plex is another option. I like the customization of kodi but it's more effort than it probably should be to set up initially and if you have a lot of stuff (4tb) you'll need a USB drive to expand memory for kodi (at least that's what I've found)

I'm using just VLC, and for IPTV - Smart IPTV.

I'm a fan of Archos video player on the mibox. Kodi is fine if you want the add-ons but for just playing local content I prefer the UI of Archos.

What I like about Kodi is when it lists all the episodes of a show in a folder, it puts a check mark on ones ive already watched and a dash for ones I havent finished watching. It will play the next file automatically (disabled by default), easily download subtitles if needed. The best thing, it doesn't re-arrange all your files into one big ass cluster fuck of a directory that Plex does. It allows me to list and navigate media folders like I would with File Explorer.
