New Fire TV stick 4k remote - Potentially perfect?

by Greylights888

The remote with the new just-released 4k Fire TV stick meets all my demands for perfection.

  • IR power and volume, with mute
  • Play/pause buttons
  • Voice control
  • No excess buttons (airmouse, pg up/pg dn etc)
  • Conventional Android TV layout
  • Real click buttons, no sliders or touch nonsense
  • AAA batteries

It's unbelievable that no remote fitting these requirements has ever been made (a couple have come close), is this finally the one?

Has anyone used it? Is it compatible with Nvidia Shield TV? If so, is it snappy and lag-free?

I'll be buying on to try out with my shield(s).

If it doesn't work, I'll put it on my Firetv in my AirBNB.

Edit: Shield(s)

I just pre-ordered the remote. Hopefully it works with my Shield, but will have to wait until the 31st to confirm. If it does, I'll but another 2 for my secondary Shields.

If it had page up and down, it would be perfect for me. Streaming is more and more used for cord cutters and flipping through channels is a must for some people.

If I could flip through channels on Vue or Sling or any number of cable services, I'd be so much happier with the service.

Hell, shortcut buttons would also be nice.

Is the remote Bluetooth or WiFi?

From what I have read it sounds like the power and volume control are IR. Many will be happy with that I'm sure but I was hoping otherwise.

Yeah if you don't mind a slow laggy ui. That's the only issue I see with those tiny sticks. Can't put much processing power in them.

Nice one. I missed the volume buttons on the stick.

Also it is sad, only the stick gen2 basic edition is supported most of the regions.

link to just remote? Please and thanks.

Everyone is different, there are a few things listed above here I would never consider "perfection" but I already have my remote scenario fleshed out since acquiring a Mi Box in 2016, improved upon it once adding the Shield to the fold in early 2017.

Stock remotes almost always suck IME.

dub_starr

i read on the verge that they will be selling the remote for 29.99 on its own too

Would be perfect if it had Google Apps like Youtube and Youtube TV.

Wow, that looks awesome. Too bad I already purchased a side click to pair with the current gen AFTV remote.

It works very well with the Android TV apps built in to my Sony TV. It's a nifty little remote.

IMO, Amazon makes absolute dumpster fires with their UI and I don't expect this to be an exception
