Mi box vs amazon fire tv 4k box - Plex Performance question.

by jmurph116

I have a mi box but I'm thinking of returning it to walmart and grabbing an Amazon fire tv 4k box. Wondering If the fire tv would perform streaming high bitrate files from a remote server better than the mi box. The mi box does okay, but you cant hardwire it. I assume the fire tv can perform better especially with it hardwired, right?

High Bitrate 4K Bluray Rips playback needs Gigabit Ethernet hardware to stream over a home network. If you do not have that forget about reliable 4K BD streaming.

The best Plug N Play device for 4K BD Rips is not even an Android device, it's the Apple TV 4K, running Infuse or MrMC Apps. Both of those Apps direct play anything from a Plex server.

The following thread has a hell of a lot of info:

Cheap hardware will not give you what you are looking for. You have to bite the bullet and buy something decent that is well supported.

You can buy a USB ethernet dongle and the Mi Box should be able to handle 4k streaming. I wouldn't do HDR 60fps stuff but netflix and youtube and amazon 4k should be fine.

For HDR 60fps stuff you really need a shield. It can handle it better than any other box except for maybe the Apple TV 4k.
