Should I update my Mi box 3?

by kaarelv

I have read many people have had problems with their Mi boxes after updating to 8.0. As I just bought my device it is running on android 6, I wondered whether I should upgrade it to 8.0? My setup is rather simple: older Samsung plasma TV, BT speakers, and dual-band wifi network.

Is it also possible to downgrade if I encounter many fatal errors? Thanks

I was eager to update both I have. I would strongly recommend not to update. After the update it's easier to find it lagging, or not waking up after sleep, which is really annoying. The update didn't bring any benefits.

Oreo bugfix build 2179 is, by far, the most trouble free version currently available.

OTA build 2303 (untested) added extra bugs that were cured in 2179 (thoroughly tested)

Suggest you find and flash 2179 with instructions posted in this forum

It's luck of the draw really. Some have updated without issues and others with plenty. A factory reset before and after updating would be the best thing to do if you are going to update.

No update issues here, everything runs perfectly on 8.0.

Oreo works great for me, just do a factory reset when you first update.

I've been tempted to update but have held off on my two boxes, I would just wait to see if they ever fix anything.

Yeah, don't do it. There's a lot of problems with WiFi and overall lagginness.

The last public update works great for me. No problems other than Accessibility (Google) and downgrade of IR codes (Xiaomi). Both don't affect many people.

I updated and have no issues of lag or anything - seems to work as well as it did before.

I'm hardwired internet, however.

LOL. Reading over this thread, some say do it and some say don't do it. What to believe? They both can't be right can they?

Ntress

don't!!

I've seen people having trouble with 5.1 (DD/DTS) over SPDIF with one of the latest update. It seems all passthrough were disabled (and the ALWAYS option in audio removed) and SPDIF were stuck to PCM2.0.

Is it still the case with the current software version? I ask before updating...

Is there any way to downgrade to 6? After updating to 8.0 I cannot connect via wifi to my router in another room, which was previously working pretty decently. This update made the device largely unusable.

edit: I did a factory reset after updating with no improvement connectivity-wise

If you want WiFi reliability problems, go right ahead and auto upgrade to the very latest 2303 Oreo release. Xiaomi have not tested that Firmware at ALL.

Mi Box laginess is a usually the result of insufficient storage space left available. Simple fix is delete some Apps.

Don’t do it. DO NOT
