Model number : MDZ -16- AB is international version or global version. If you bought it from Walmart, it should be international version.
You could always download and install the update. But since you aren't an expert in these stuffs, I suggest you wait for it to show up on OTA. Also, check your internet connection.
I have 2 mi boxes on 6, and considering the amount of reports of problematic mi boxes on 8 I won't be upgrading anytime soon. Also, I have a Shield on 8, and frankly I don't see the appeal. Quite like version 6.
If is international version I recommend to wait until they realease another update to fix all the bugs.
Throw it out and buy a shield.
maybe the update rollout is halted by xiaomi.
i wouldn't update it if I were you. 6.0.1 definitely better than oreo.
EDIT: I'm on 2179, and it no longer notify me of an update. i think they finally realize the problem.
