Streaming 4K over network to my Android TV Box is laggy ! over 1000M (1 Gbps) ?

by msaithan

Hi Guys,

I have some 4k videos (gopro video) in WD MyCloud, as well as in my PC

Whenever I stream to my android tv 4k files (using KODI or Plex) it is laggy and not loading well, supper slow

even though im using high speed Ethernet (1000M ) and my android box supports that as well

If i copy files through the network is reaches 100 mb/sec so im sure the network is working well

bu im struggliong with the 4k streaming and the andorid box

anyone is having the same issue ? any suggestions ?

I tried modifying some setting in kodi as i have seen couple of videos but no luck

What box?

If you can play the same file without any issues on your PC, your Android TV box is at fault. So try that..

I had issues as well and it turned out to be the Android OS gimping things.

Find out what chipset your box is running on and find a Libreelec build for that chipset. The difference is night and day.

On Android, I was getting skips with 1080p,10Gb rips.

On Libreelec, my 4K copy Infinity War (56Gb) runs incredibly smooth.

Depending on the hardware you have you may not be able to to properly playback high bitrate videos especially GoPro videos. I remember some of my videos being in the 50 MB bitrate territory.

Probably unrelated, but if your box only reaches 100 mb/s something is wrong, those aren't Gigabit speeds.

WD MyCloud (according to the reviews and complaints I’ve read) has absolutely horrible network speeds. So that could be the issue.

But it can also be that your box is struggling to decode the 4K file it is getting. How was the file encoded? And what is the bitrate?

Could be the video file. We only discuss Android TV devices here though, so you are in the wrong subreddit if your box runs regular touchscreen Android.

This thread is useless because the OP does not even mention which device is having problems.

Everyone is right to respond "stop buying Android trash"

Or "get a NVIDIA Shield"

If you have an AMLogic box use LibreELEC, that can run entirely separately from a micro SDHC card.
