Unless you are concerned with security (which you probably aren’t buying this) I wouldn’t consider it.
I still have to reboot daily, I still get system crashes daily which need a power cycle so that I can boot and I still get glitching and weird things happening with the image when I fast forward (eg. tiny video window in the corner) I really regret getting rid of my nexus player for it when the remote died.
The support from xiaomi has really soured me on their brand.
I'm quite happy. YMMV!

Oreo works great on mine, use it every day. I do recommend running factory reset after the upgrade though. Would never want to go back to MM or Nougat after Oreo.
