I myself like to game sometimes, but I don't game that much so investing in a console/gaming pc and buy the games, specially living in a third world country with prohibitive taxes, is actually a very bad deal. I find this stream wave very interesting.
What do you guys with profiles related to mine think about it?
Nope it'll be a semi-decent service that Google drops after a year and moves on to something else.
I don't think Android TV needs 'saving' more OEMs are picking it up and IIRC one big brand announced that their sole smart TV OS would Android TV.
What would make it more mainstream is more OEM's picking it up getting it into the homes of non-niche users.
The only truly good Android TV device is the Shield, and Nvidia put that into production less to get behind the OS and more to showcase their chipset, they've not done much with the hardware in a while, but then, I guess it doesn't really need to be changed.
Unfortunately if you live in a 3rd world country - chances are ping/lag to the server will be too high because the cloud server will most likely be in another country. Nvidia Shield TV cloud gaming is basically impossible here in Kenya with pings to US/Europe at 150ms +
Am I the only one who thinks the ecosystem of apps isnt that important? If it has Netflix, amazon and youtube (and maybe hulu) it covers the needs of almost everyone.

Yes. Many Android TV users don't give a shit about games. Serious gamers don't want to stream games. This is definitely not going to save anything.
Anyone who thinks Android TV is dying has exactly 0 clue about what they are talking and has exactly 0 idea about TV/Broadcast industry. The number of telcos using Android TV for their STB's has been growing at staggering rate. Android TV platform should not be compared to Android Mobile OS.
