i got myself a mi box 3 last week from amazon
it was delivered with Android 6.0.1 and since the reviews said it would update immediately to Oreo i was worried my box wasnt working properly
i tried to install this build:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/9702jp/mibox_new_oreo_update_released/
and followed these steps: r/
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/93roj5/xiaomi_mdz16ab_oreo_build_2175_wifi_fix_google/
result: upper left corner says OPR6.170623.013/2179 (so did the update work?) but the box always boots into recovery
trying to flash that update again using xiaomi_update file starts the "installing" screen for a millisec and switches to "error" screen after that
factory reset and wiping cache partition didnt help
anything else i can do? otherwise i'll send it back and get me a shield out of frustration..
This is NOT a MiBox issue...
Your experience points to an out-of-spec USB thumb drive
Try different thumb drive(s) until flash is successful.
Current world record for faulty thumb drives stands at 7, until the 8th ultimately worked as expected. Try formatting drive on a different PC.
The definitive process is outlined in the following link, but will not succeed until you find a suitable flash drive
