3 Mi Box Stuck at Mi Logo

by smack1114

2 were at my house and 1 was at my mother in laws. Mine had an IPTV service and Titanium Tv my mother in laws just had Kartina.Tv and Otto Tv. It's just very odd to have 3 of these get to that screen. My inlaws happened about 2 weeks ago and mine first happened to 1 about a week ago and the newest one today.

2 of these boxes no longer have remotes because they broke. The one that does I've tried a reset by pushing ok and the back button. I go into recovery hit factory reset and clear cache just in case. Reboot and it goes back to the mi logo. There is a little flicker about 5 seconds after plugging it in but it goes no farther than the logo.

Is there anyway to fix these boxes?

Edit: I had to return the 2 and the one I fixed ended up breaking again so I'm going to return the 3rd as well. I also had a friend call who has the same problem with his 1 box.

I was able to fix at least one of these boxes and I want to put the steps in a clear order as it was a little hard putting it all together. The best info I found here https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/9am2ik/mibox_suddenly_unresponsive_to_both_remote/

1 Dowload this file http://www.mediafire.com/file/fhh4zjspge6eh22/once-8.0-2167.7z/file or from here https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/9702jp/mibox_new_oreo_update_released/?st=jlco46bu&sh=90c671cc

2 Rename that download to update.zip

3 Open notebook or similar program and type in --update_package=/udisk/update.zip

4 Save the file as xiaomi_update with no extension. In windows folder view up at the top right select to view extensions. Then delete the .txt.

5 Format a thumb drive (Some thumbs drives don't work well with the mibox so you may have to try a few). Do this on windows by right clicking the drive in file explorer and click format. Fast format should be fine but I didn't do the fast option just in case. Move update.zip and xiaomi_update to the USB drive.

6 Go into recovery mode on the mibox. Unplug the mibox and then plug it back in while holding the OK and back buttons. About 15 seconds later you'll be in recovery mode.

7 Select wipe data and then wait a little while

8 When the wipe is complete insert the USB Drive

9 Select Update, then update from udisk according to others, but I just rebooted with the USB stick in and it started the update process. Then it run through 3 reboots until you're back to new.

Boot into recovery and flash the stock ROM from USB. It's the only fix I found that worked with that issue.

Mine did this about 2 weeks ago. The. This week no display at all. I think it’s dead. I have two others that are still ok. Sorry I don’t have any help for you.

My Mibox bricked last week a day after I had done a full factory reset. I contacted Xiaomi tech support and they walked me through the USB rom flash method and when that failed after 4 attempts they set me up with a return authorization to exchange the unit. I was actually quite impressed with the level of support given that this was such an inexpensive product.

If any of the dead ones are still under warranty, mine did the exact same thing... froze at logo and then, eventually, no video. I had an excellent experience with Xiaomi's chat support - chatted, explained, gave serial number, they sent me pre-paid FedEx labels to mail the defective unit in. Less than a week later I had a brand new one in the shrink wrap delivered.

Mine still will not let me reset or even get past the black MI load page.

Far to complicated of a cluster fcuk method.

This DIY FW2179 auto FW reflash is much simpler:
