Hello, tried updating it from android 6.0 to Oreo and now its stuck on recovery mode. Wiping data and factory reset are not working out, any suggestions?

I was exactly in your situation with my new Mi box,and I solved I have android 8.0 oreo and working better, (I just received the box by morning and already updated it.

If you then want to update to 2179, keep reading that same post. Just beware of using the same flashing method of 2167 as actually described there (keeping xiaomi_update file on the USB but removing the "--wipe-data" part of it with a text editor), not going into "apply update from EXT" in recovery as some comments suggest.
