Xiaomi customer service? Kinda long post...

by switch_laser

Curious what others have experienced?

I contacted Xiaomi US through the chat service to ask about any possibility of updates for the Mibox 3. I had really given up on the box itself and just wanted to hear the company's intention. The chat rep wanted to run some tests based on the symptoms which was virtually impossible considering nothing at all was functional. I actually had to take a minute to dig the box out of a drawer and reconnect everything for this process. A few typical customer service questions later and I'm lined up to receive a new box in the mail. My box is over a year old so no warranty applies. If I actually receive a brand new replacement (or even a refurbished unit) at no charge to me, well.....that's nifty. Maybe there's a hardware issue and Xiaomi wants to make good with little fuss. Maybe they have a warehouse full of product and they just want to shake them. Maybe they actually stand behind the product. Who knows. Either way it may be worth while to contact them if your box went belly up. I'm holding out hope. YMMV

xiaomi are pretty good they support devices far longer than most other manufacturers I have a RM2 still getting bi-weekly firmware updates from them i have had that for like 6 years or something retarded

Figured I would update this post for any one with a Mibox. Xioami emailed me a return slip and shipping instructions that indicate if I send them my box they will send a replacement at no cost to me. Ok then.

HOWEVER...

At the behest of u/kosherguy I did no less than 5 full factory resets for build 2179 as a last ditch effort to save the Mibox and get a fresh start.. That was yesterday. Today the box locked up mid YouTube video. Frozen video and audio. Pulling the plug to reboot on 3 occasions all got me back to a black screen past the Mibox. It also no longer boots into recovery. Simply looping to a black screen. Seeing others post about the Mibox S already having issues has put me on the anti Xiaomi list. It doesn't even seem worth now.

I think mibox issues are googles fault

You can restore your MiBox to full working condition with 10 minutes of effort.

Here's the roadmap.....follow precisely...
