I had the same problem when I first got the ethernet adaptor for my Mi Box. If you have usb debugging enabled, just disable it and it will work
Your device shipped with version 6 (MM) build 699.
You have 2 options to get your USB adapter to work.
Update to MM build 1901 which is the final version of MM available. Original release date 7/2017.
Update to Oreo build 2179 which is the most stable, fully tested build. Release date 8/2018.
