"You can now control your NVIDIA SHIELD TV with Alexa"

Or you could just enable "hey, Google" on your Shield and skip the middleman.

Edit: fair points raised about the proximity and quality of the Shield remote microphone.

Highlighting this bit.

"But wait, there's more. From now through November 10, if you buy a Shield TV from Amazon or BestBuy, you'll get a free 3rd-gen Echo Dot. If you already own a Shield TV, Nvidia says that, assuming you're a Shield Rewards member, you'll get an email offering you an "exclusive discount.""

"For now, Nvidia says that this is limited to the US." dammit

Can't wait til I can use it with my Google Home. 75% of the time it'll turn on/off the TV. Can't open Netflix, can't open Plex, can't change volume. Hell with my Pixel 3 I can't even use Android Remote or Shield Remote on my phone.

Can I control it through Google Assistant yet? I was trying to shut the music off when I left the house today, and it kept going "No, I can't do that unless you specify which device you wish to stop playing." and all I could think of is "Stop the one that's playing, asshole! and "I only have one devices, how about stopping that one?". Eventually I put down my suitcases, walked back to the living room and used the damn remote.

  1. Can Alexa put on a specific tv/movie and episode on? Can I say "alexa, play Seinfeld season 5, episode 1"? Does Alexa/shield find which subscription Seinfeld is on and play it?

  2. Does Alexa work with Kodi? can I say "Alexa, play shrek on Kodi"?
