there is the Android TV Remote app you cna use to fully control it.
or the Xiaomi remote also
Mi Box 3 owner here, volume control works globally and play/pause works in apps with support enabled (basically just YouTube). It's not nearly as fully featured as Chromecast or Shield support though.
You can control volume of the device pause and stuff using the Google home app
