Pairing Bluetooth headphones to Sony AndroidTV

by I_love_breadsticks

I have had my Sony for a while now, and while I do love the flexibility of having android I really dislike the terrible remote, the laggyness and the keyboard choice. Coming from an LGTV their remote really is magic.

But I think what gets me the most is how buried in the settings the Bluetooth menu is. There’s a quick sound settings menu, but it has zero BT options. Is there anyway to connect my BT headphones to the TV that doesn’t need me to go through the whole settings page?

I looked into this. I don't think so. I don't think it has Bluetooth out for audio. If it does, I'm all ears ;)

The lack of Bluetooth audio support on many (if not most) of Sony's AndroidTV's has been discussed and complained about for years now. It's there on only a handful of the most expensive sets, but the large majority of models doesn't have it (despite whatever "new" version of Android is installed.) It's disappointing. However, there is a cheap workaround. Get one of these and plug it into the TV's headphone (audio out) port. I have this one and it works fine, no lag.

But pairing is a one-time process only, right?

Does it not connected automatically when your BT headphone turned on?

...I can vouch for this product that i use quite often in the evenings - https://aluratek.com/universal-bluetooth-optical-audio-receiver-transmitter.html hooked up to my TV's Optical port. Battery lasts 10 hours. Has the Aptx codec.

...Actually bought it slightly used off Craigslist for $25 bucks!

For many models you can install an apk to fix it with a new bluetooth profile. I don’t know the name of it, but google it!

It depends which model tv you have.inly certain models are compatible with Bluetooth headphones

I don't think there is a way. I stopped using BT headphones with mine anyway because Sony's lag compensation sucks so your audio is always late with BT headphones. I've switched to RF but when I had a Samsung Tizen TV, it would immediately detect BT headphones AND do the lag compensation correctly. Granted, the Sony is a better TV. Can't have everything I guess.
