Mi Box 3 just dead?

by seej1171

So one day it was working, now it's not doing anything. I've tried power cycling to no avail. I was wondering at first if it was the HDMI cable but it never shows up on my network or as a cast target after a few minutes. Lights come on when I plug it in but that's all I've got. Any ideas what I can try to revive it?

Since Oreo update, there is A LOT of bugs. One of them is the remote controle not powering the box. You have to push the button 3 or 4 times to get the box started.

Other thing you can do if nothing works is to unplug the alimentation, then keep pushing back + Ok buttons together while plugin the alimentation back (it's a bit tricky with two hands, if someone can help you it's easier). Then you'll boot into recovery mode. Go to the line that says "wype data/factory reset" and validate. It will completely reset the box (you'll lose all apps you have may install and reset the system to factory, you'll also lose all datas like passwords).

I did it because all the bugs that came with Oreo update. It did fix one of them (wifi problem) but not the other bugs. It may worth the shot to try it if you can't do anything else.

MiBox 3 First Aid.....

follow explicit directions in this guide...

May need to do repetitive full system resets via settings menu to totally clear out conflicting bits of code

Good luck

Our **THIRD** MiBox just suffered this. I don't even think I'm going to spend the time with them for a warranty replacement which we did on 2 already. I got a used Roku Premiere and it's doing everything the Mi did and a bit more, it and just works. At this point, I just can't trust that in a year a warranty replacement doesn't brick itself again.
