Mi Box S Casting vs Shield TV

by up2urheadlights

So I got my Mi Box S and tried casting YouTube TV and Plex and it just doesn't work. Anyone else have a similar experience? Also can someone with a Shield TV chime in if casting from YouTube TV works on that device? I'm trying to decide if I should return this and get a Shield but don't know if this is an issue with the OS or the Chromecast built-in app.

my cast works fine under 5GHz. for youtube i just click the cast icon and choose mi box 3. another way is go to youtube settings and choose play on tv, then click mi box 3

I don't know if Mi Box S is any better than the original Mi Box, but this reminds me my early days with the latter.

I had problems to cast through 5Ghz network. The device also had problems to be discovered by the Android tv remote app when it was connected to my home's 5Ghz network. 2.4ghz fixed that issue, but it was not so good on streaming. A few months later I used a USB to ethernet adaptor and everything is working fine since then.

Take a look at that old thread https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/5rsodl/mi_box_android_tv_5ghz_wifi_issues/?utm_source=reddit-android

Go to settings > apps > built-in chromecast > clear data > reboot

What is actually happening? The cast icon does not show up in your applications? Google home app does not find your box? Also check if you have any settings in your router about separating wifi clients and/or wifi vs lan clients.
Do you try to cast from mobile phone or desktop chrome?
