In terms of performance, compared to the old one?
In terms of performance, compared to the old one?
Not sure how much help this is but I recently won the Mi Box S and it arrived yesterday. I'm coming from the Nexus Player because it's been surprisingly doing well enough for me all these years.
Set up was easy and quick. Only thing annoying is it seems dedicated apps on the system such as ESPN, CBS and a few others. Can't be uninstalled and it seems you can remove them by other methods but I don't really care. I just disabled them.
All my typical apps loaded quickly and were functioning well enough. This includes YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Play music. Casting functioned normal and didn't have any buffering issues either.
I haven't had a chance to load and use Kodi. Neither have I tested network speeds, screen res, etc. But coming from the Nexus Player, it's much quicker. The remote has unnecessary extra buttons in my opinion such as a dedicated Netflix. Maybe I'm used to the simple and plain Nexus Player remote. Yes I see it's shortcomings as when compared to the beastly Nvidia Shield but so far it's working well enough. Also it's been less than 2 hours of use time to notice any bugs or issues.
I've both. Not much of a difference really. If anything, the new one is not as polished as the last update on the old one. I feel like it's more of an investment for Android 9 pie which should bring remarkable performance increase in slow devices. If they end up realising Pie in the old one, then it's kind of a pointless investment
Get the Jetstream 4K, which has better connectivity and does not package a bunch of bloatware Apps like the Mi Box does that cannot be uninstalled and take up valuable storage space:

Once you run out of storage space, these constrained Android TV devices slow down a LOT.
I had some issues while watching Sling TV, the screen went black and no sound, remote did nothing but after 20 seconds or so it came back. I didn't get a chance to diagnose it much yet.
Other than that and no support in Harmony Hub yet it works fine
Works great so far just got it last weekend Mi Box S at local Walmart. I have NVIDIA Shield not as fast as that as expected but the remote works better. CEC is not as good as on the Shield but the remote does turn on and off TV but volume control IS not as fully control as the Shield does. It was between this and new Amazon 4K Stick went with this because Amazon devices home screens is way to clutter up I like clean look of the Mi Box S it did come with some unnecessary apps but I did disable them.
Isn't it the same core hardware?
