Has anyone had success in setting their Android TV in portrait (vertical) mode within the software? We would like to mount the TV for displaying vertically. It's the Sony Bravia version so rooting isn't really an option. Thanks.

I have side loaded some apps that forced themselves to portrait mode but have never seen the actual OS in potrait mode
I doubt you can do it universally, it's like my phone can be auto-rotate, but the launcher/home-screen doesn't stray from portrait mode.
Likewise I really don't think the AndroidTV launcher nor the cast receiver supports rotation.
However you may be able to find and sideload a slideshow viewer app that respects the rotation, combine that with one of the apps used to rotate sideloaded apps, that I see others have recommended, and you may have a solution to your problem.
Have you checked develop options?
What content do you plan to show?
You can try this app out. I used to use it for YoutubeTV to force it to be landscape when it was a sideloaded APK.
Haven't used it in a few months though
