HDMI ARC Issues with Netflix on Shield - External Soundbar

Hey folks,

My setup is an NVIDIA Sheild - HDMI to Vizio TV - HDMI from TV to Yamaha YAS-108 Soundbar.

I have two issues

  1. On live channels app - I have local channels via a usb tv tuner. When there is static - or if there is a live channel feed with issues - my soundbar will make the most annoying tonal sound.

  2. When I use netflix - anything with 5.1 sound - will not play audio. I have to mute and unmute and then it will work. Same thing happens when I fastforward or rewind - audio will be out - i will have to mute than unmute.

Not sure if the issue is the Nvidia Shield - the TV or the Soundbar - but I thought I would check here first to find out.

PS: If I use optical audio instead of HDMI ARC - none of these issues occur.

Sounds like the vizio is at fault.

I also have a vizio, but I'm straight optical audio. No issues on anything. And I pipe everything from it to the surround sound as well.

Make sure you have a certified high speed HDMI cable

The soundbar has hdmi in? Connect the shield directly to the soundbar and let it passthrough the video to the TV.

Netflix changed the app months ago and I got the same 5.1 mute. Changed it in the Netflix settings on the shield. Sorry can't remember which it was, not home.
