Tips & hints for Android TV's

by tjsuominen

I just got my SONY KD-55XF9005 Android TV - what a brilliant TV it is! I do not find the TV specially sluggish or slow, still fine-tuning ìt to be better is always welcome! Notice: Do with your own "risk", your milege may vary!

Tips & hints:

  • External Inputs > Bravia Sync Settings > Auto Devices Off & Auto TV On
  • External Inputs > Manage Inputs > Hide those inputs you are not using to de-clutter your Home view
  • Sound > Audio System Prioritization (if you have external speakers)
  • Home-screen > Recommendations Row > Disable all Apps to de-clutter Home view
  • Home-screen > Apps and Game Rows > Manually re-sort apps for preferred order
  • Activate Developer mode by clicking on the Build n:o >
  • Speed-up animations from Developer mode from 1x > 0.5x (three places)
  • Disable all unnecessary App notifications (to de-clutter the Home view)
  • Disable / Uninstall Samba Interactive
  • Activate Enhanced-mode to HDMI port (2 or 3, 3 is ARC that I connect to my A/V receiver) & HDR will be auto-detected
  • Have X-tended Dynamic Range / X-motion ON
  • I have disabled both Android TV auto-update & Apps auto-updates as I prefer doing them manually
  • Disable Sony logo "blinking" (Illumination Led) or "Single"

My questions to You:

  1. What services / background apps can be safely disabled AND what they are supposed to do?

  2. Your best Android TV app (not interested in Games) recommendations?

I posted a sticky that goes way beyond this to /r/bravia. My guide explains how to not only disable some apps, but to completely get rid of them from the home menu altogether.

Great list that was going so well until the recommendation of dynamic contrast and motion. Atrocious things to do to your tv content.
