YouTube for Android TV and basic UI

by NiceGuyMike

This app seems to be a version 1.0. it is optimized for recommendations rather than browsing or discovery.

The interface is inconsistent when displaying video info (i.e. sometimes it displays the video date sometimes the view count). Mainly what I'd like to be able to see is video descriptions. This would also include possible links to other YouTube videos that are reference within the deacription. Basic information and UI found on the web version is what I'm looking for.

Are there alternatives to YouTube for Android TV?

EDIT: some changes because I was on Mobile initially

The Android "app" is no longer really an app. It's a web wrapper that calls up this webpage . I use SmartYouTube, but that still has the awful interface.

I agree.. hate the new Youtube TV App.. big time downgrade from performance, usability and discover ability perspective

bleh. i'm giving the 2.x webview another try since i've been sitting on 1.3.11 for so long (and the new thing doesn't crash on molly anymore) we'll see how it goes.

you could downgrade the app to the old app, and try that out, just need to shut off auto updates.

My Shield TV YouTube app is completely different this morning. I still hadn't figured out the last one. Do my subscriptions not translate to other platforms? I subscribed to a shitload of channels on my Shield but my phone apps doesn't have any of them.

You haven't seen official NBA App for Android TV - YouTube is bearable next to that one.
