Little story about my experience with the SONY support team - in short : run

Let me sum it up for all of the potential Sony TV owners in this thread:

  • Virtually all modern Sony Smart TV's run a unoptimized Android TV 7.1 Nougat OS, or even earlier in some markets. Using a

  • underpowered old MediaTek Chipset, sold by a company that really does not care about the Android TV OS.

  • and read the following.

The Sony Android TV Experience 2018!

You only buy Sony for it motion handling and picture processing, inc. HDR and DolbyVision. It really should only be use as a high quality display panel for an external media player.

After my 65 inch Bravia died 3 weeks outside of their pitiful 1 year manufacturer warranty, and would have required a repair that cost more than the TV itself, I had to decide what to buy next.

I hesitantly decided to stick with a Bravia because it's still the best value for the price, but I immediately bought a 4 year Square Trade warranty for it, and I'm expecting something to catastrophically fail within that window. Sony can fuck right off with their 'support'.

For your problem in particular, if the TV inputs still work fine, why not just buy a Shield or something and use the interface through that?

Sony has fucked royally my 4K Bravia. It's a earlier generation without Android TV built in, but they auto updated it, and the update essentially removed 3D. I know 3D is mostly dead in the US...but I liked it and had a bunch of 3D discs so they just screwed me, there is nothing they can do, etc etc. After a year they pushed out a final firmware to fix it. It has NOT fixed it and has made the TV slow. Slow to load Netflix, Prime, switching Inputs. Say you power on and want to switch inputs because you're going to play some Xbox...it needs a literal few minutes to "warm up" before it will let you switch inputs. You get this message on the bottom of the screen, TV Powering on. But wait you'll question my network. I have the TV Hardwired to my network that is Gigabit Fios. I get real throughput of 960mbps down and up. I have none of these issues with the LG I bought a year ago. I'm so over Sony.

I won't be the first or the last to say this. If you buy a TV and expect the support media players get, You are a fucking idiot.

Please carry on.
