Connecting but limited features

by LurzLionheart

Hi all. Few problems with a new Sony Bravia TV. It has built in Chromecast and I can ping YouTube and videos on to it easily from my Samsung phone. However, if I try to rename it or change some settings it states " cannot connect to Android TV". Alongside this, my wife has an iPhone, I have linked his to the set up etc and it detects the Chromecast but when I mirror the screen, the TV screen shows the Chromecast icon but does not progress any further. The phone screen shows that it is connected and apparently playing on the TV.

Any advice is welcome. I have even looked for a way to just reboot the Chromecast (as this normally fixed these sorts of issues with the plug in version). I have tried unplugging tv and restarting it. I have checked all of the firmware etc is up to date. I have also redone all of the Wi-Fi signals and settings etc.

Many thanks.

rename the device from system settings? not via home app, etc.

I’ve run into some occasional issues casting because either the app on the tv was not updated or the app on my phone wasn’t. If that doesn’t solve the issue try logging out/in of the YouTube app on the TV. There is also option to reset the app on the TV that can solve some connectivity problems.

Various combinations of these steps have resolved my issues, although only iPhone users interact with our Bravia. No experience with Samsung devices.

Afaik mirroring from Samsung phones to Chromecast does not always work easily because of reasons only known to samsung. Try mirroring from any other android phone and you will see.

If that does not work, check your network connection to the TV, mirroring takes quite a toll on the network, especially if you have a high-end phone with high resolution running in a subpar network. Use Airflow to check your bandwidth.

And yes, you cannot fully control AndroidTV Chromecast from the Google Home app, edit settings etc.

PS you cannot mirror iPhone to Chromecast at all. Not sure what you are doing.

I've had the exact same problem with my new Bravia. The name is X8500F in the google app and I cant rename it because, as you said, it 'Cannot connect to android tv". Ive tried resetting mine and removing it from google home but it doesnt work. It sucks that I cant even rename my brand new $1800 tv.
