Jetstream Plex Ethernet Issues

I'm pretty happy with this little box thus far except for the fact that Plex transcodes the crap out of most of my library over the built in Ethernet port regardless of quality settings. If I disconnect Ethernet and use WiFi and everything works as it should. Would like to think this is simply a Plex issue that will be resolved in a future update since no other apps appear to have issues using the Ethernet connection.

Has anyone else seen this issue or have a workaround? I'm considering trying one of the gigabit Ethernet adapters that work on the mibox but that's certainly not ideal.

I've also been unsuccessful at manually assigning a static IP and Cloudfare's DNS to this box for some reason.

Same thing - it only appears when you are using ethernet. Plex on wifi works great (except that wifi itself craps out for me, but that's a separate story).

On ethernet, for some odd reason, Plex ends up negotiating with the plexmediaserver down to 720kbps (pretty much the lowest), which means crappy quality and heavy transcoding.

A few days ago I sent my "Network logs" over to /u/sixones, who is a plex developer. Waiting to hear back now on his analysis of the problem.

There were a few suggestions that came from the thread that may or may not be helpful for you:

/u/World177 suggested changing the quality AFTER it starts playing. Works great, but you have to do it every time so not ideal.
/u/BiggussDikkuss suggested using the kodi Plex plugin. That works great (no issues with direct play), but the only thing is the kodi plex plugin is clunkier and less user friendly. (was planning to send this Jetstream box to a tech unsavvy relative).

Anyways, hoping we get a fix in the plex android client sometime.

For your static IP issue, you should assign it on your router by using the MAC address. That way you can set your jetstream box to DHCP and it will pick up the same IP every single time.

60 days and still the issue hasn’t been solved :( any android box using an usb Ethernet adapter is affected afaik.

There is also the simpler (highly modded Kodi Jarvis) - MrMC App that also can Plug into a Plex database and I bet that works better as well.

There is even an inbuilt Plex Skin available for that App.
