The latest update works great on mine it was just released a week ago. Android 8.0 forget the build number but the security level is actually much newer than Shield TV.
Actually Xiaomi has disabled the firmware updates because of the problems created with the Oreo updates. So that is a good thing for you.
Netflix app is not working anymore. Tried many different methods to fix it but nothing works. It is crazy how netfliex app is not working with this machine! It is kind of the main app for the TV nowadays.

Since Oreo, too much problems. I can't even use that box for anything. Every Netflix is laggy AF (about two strong freezes per second). And it's not only Netflix, there is a lot of people having Wifi issues, power issues, crash issues...
Well, if you can stay on MM, don't update the box unless you like risky games.
Just go to about / system update. Press is a few times. Had to do a lot of times to get it to update. Updated 3 boxes last few days.
