Can you easily get an internet browser on the play store?

by ghost5555

I'm buying my daughter a smart TV for Christmas but she has an obsessive disorder so I try to limit the amount of time she spends on certain apps and websites.

My issue with simply buying a smart TV is that most are advertised with Facebook and a web browser etc which will be hard for me to manage

I know that in the early days web browsers where not on the play store but have things changed?

Thanks

There's a few browsers you can install from the play store. Puffin is the major one I think.

#ALWAYS BUY A TV BASED ON PICTURE QUALITY ALONE.

Don't limit yourself to smart TVs with a specific OS. You can easily upgrade a box. You should only be upgrading a TV for better picture.

I think ur asking for parental setup guild or a 2ay to lock her out of stuff at times...

Look for away to setup childlocks or look to setup internal fire wall in ur router to limit her time on that ip address and you can setup an host file to stop sites for being accessed.

Ask for more help but not from me sorry

You may be better off with a Roku as it is very limited and you can restrict the user from adding any channels (apps) by requiring the pin code.

You can say "Install Chrome" and google assistant will magically do it, despite it not being in the store. If you say any other combination of words it doesn't work.

Firefox is on the Play Store. You can also side-load Chrome and it works pretty well with a keyboard/mouse.

It's certainly possible to install a web browser on android tv. But it's not straight forward, and the controls are far from convenient. Hope this comforts you a bit.

Get a roku. It's going to do everything, and let's be honest, more as far as streaming goes, but no browser.
