Plex app vs Kodi Plex

by Shardrock

i'm new to this Android TV thing and have been reading that the Plex plugin for Kodi is much better than the actual Android TV app. In what way is that the case?

i'm planning on trying it out tonight but unless there's a big reason why its better, i'm leaning toward using the app out of the convenience factor.

yes it is, Plex app sometimes requires transcoding where Kodi app doesn't, though I hate how Plex addon for Kodi changes UI so much

The latest Plex update for Android TV works flawless for me. I deleted the Kodi app because that's all I used it for. I'm using Plex for 70gb 4k hdr files and it works fine over a hard wired connection into my shield.

To be clear, there are two main Plex for Kodi options. One is the official (from Plex) Kodi add-on, which changed the UI and makes everything look and act like a normal Plex client. The other is a community add-on called PlexKodiConnect that doesn't change the UI, but makes Kodi use the Plex server for the library.

It's actually not as good on the Shield because it's missing lots of features. There used to be missing audio formats of Fire TV and maybe MiBox that using the Kodi playback system fixed. I don't know that those things are still missing.

MRMC is actually very good. Plays all the formats in mi box unlike official Plex app.

Also works for Emby.

On my Shield, the only reason I like Kodi/MrMC over the official Plex app is support for resolution switching. Pretty easy just to try both out and see what you prefer.

Plex user interface is horrible. I hate it. I only use it because it works with my HDHomerun Prime and my sister lives under a flight path for a major airport, so every time a plane flys over (which is every other minute) her antenna reception drops out for 2-3 seconds.

Any app that takes my carefully organized collection of video files in dozens of directories and re-organizes it into one giant directory ,... fucking cancer.
