Mibox 3 updated itself to Oreo

by im_yadwinder

I had brought a Mibox 3 a month ago and after going through this sub and seeing people complain about how Oreo ruined their boxes i decided against making the jump from Marshmallow to Oreo. Albeit, the update had already downloaded itself in the background, i refrained from clicking the restart button but yesterday the box decided that it had enough of the BS and forcibly updated to Oreo. I was nervous about what the update would do to my box but fortunately, i am yet to encounter a single bug. In fact, the problems i had on Marshmallow seems to have gone. I am pretty happy with the new interface and now i wish i had not waited this long to update it. Also, i made a factory reset after the update.

Welcome to the silent majority.

What people seem to forget is, 9 times out of 10, updates get rid of bugs, introduce new features, etc.

Views are skewed on subs like this, as people don't generally post when they're happy (most people) but when things go wrong.

Mine updated itself too today, and I'm in Brazil if it matters...

I'm also very happy with the latest Oreo. No bug at all, on the contrary it corrected a lot of 6.0.1 bugs.

Just out of curiosity, why the factory reset after the update?

I personally contributed to giving shit to the Oreo update, but you have to realize that after the first build a couple of smaller updates have been made. And you see a lot of posts about what's broken, but rarely see something like "hey I just updated and everything's fine". The first build of Oreo was indeed a total mess, with broken external drives support, the box freezing and everything. Since the very last update I'm having a much improved experience, I'm not saying 100% lag free (sometimes the YouTube app completely freezes the box and I have to pull the plug wtf) but I'm happy again. CEC is working suspiciously good, standby is working fine. The only thing I have is some frame drops on some apps (including Kodi) but I'm trying to figure out if it's a firmware issue or something on my end (like frame rate sync or slow hard disk)

Mine did that too. Everything works well but I really hate the new YouTube. My main reason for not updating was to keep the old red version. The auto play previews are distracting and really huge now, can’t see more than a few videos on the screen when browsing. On the plus side, I can now watch the next episode of a series on Prime without needing to restart the app first.

The issues I have so far with the 2396 Oreo build (+ factory reset) are related to the UI/search. Some "channels" in the main screen just disappear out of nowhere and when I try to re-enable them from the settings, nothing happens. Such apps include for instance Spotify, OCS (local video platform) or Kodi 18 Leia which didn't even appear once in the channel list. When I try to look for some content through the global search, some apps don't appear in the result list when I know for sure that this feature is compatible with the app and that this particular content exists. Moreover, some apps disable themselves in the settings from being included in search results... I don't know if there are people with similar issues out there

Count your blessings I would say and hold your breath

Mi Box Oreo is solid. Really happy with the latest update. Better than the box has ever been IMO.

Hello, i bought a Mibox 3 6¿3 months ago, i live in Mexico, my Xiaomi updated 1 month ago, never had any kind of problems o.o, everything working perfectly, i wasn't aware of the "problems" until i saw posts in the internet.

The biggest issue with Oreo is that if you have an optical cable as part of the link between your TV and sound system then Oreo for the Mi Box breaks your ability to have Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound. For anyone else I would recommend it.

Generalmilk

People tend to forget in MM Mibox can’t even play HDR right.

However you should be thankful you waited this long, the earlier versions of Oreo on Mi Box do have many critical issues.

1080p is not working for me anymore. More people have this problem?

Same here, Xiaomi have done forced update on mine from 6 to 8.0.0 build OPR6.170623.013.2396.

I did not do factory reset after upgrade because this is not necessary when doing upgrade ( from 6 to 8) .

So far no issues

After last update my YouTube doesn't work anymore (at all), can't even enter the app. Also i have a sound delay. Everytime i watch a movie the sound is off by 1 sec. It use to do that when i watched 4k, but now it's on 1080p as well. Any thoughts

Yeah my MiBox has no oreo bugs besides the occasional remote not waking it up, thankfully my Google Home wakes it up 100% of the time
