Very similar, I have had MiBox 3 for well over a year without issue. I picked up a Mibox S over BF for $40 because it was such a deal and give me a chance to check it out and compare it. Newer S has upgraded modem and remote. Firmware should also cure wake issues that plagued mibox 3's. It is housed in a slightly different case and based on the shape difference and new modem I would not be surprised if a different main board is being used. The specs remain the same and are adequate for streaming 4K as long as you have a fast connection. I would prefer the newer model but for over 30% more I would probably lean to the 3.

i think i scored it lucky with my mibox, never had an issue with it, even upgraded to oreo with no fault.
ill probably grab the mibox s just for the new remote, my parents would like the live button for ease of use
Where do you live!? I'm in Europe and I've ordered two Mi Box S from China, both cost me about 85€ shipping included.

remember 8.1 is a Frankenstein build ... not from google official ...
Honestly, other than the remote and the new set up, I can't tell any difference between the Mi Box 3 and 4. If my 3 hadn't crapped itself I probably wouldn't have upgraded
