I bought it earlier this year, and about a month ago updated the OS on it... then it started going to the Mi boot screen and getting stuck. what you can do.....
buy a different brand box. shield(give or take 130 bucks) and ematic jetstream($60?) are generally the other options. mibox S isnt much better than mibox 3 by most accounts.
factory reset and re-setup every time it goes belly up.
do a fresh flash of 2179 being sure to factory reset multiple times before setting up your accounts and apps. YMMV and its kind of asinine to have to do it but some will say it works to clear out bad code.
grab an old nexus player and install lineage OS for tv on it. a heavily involved process for old hardware but some say its worth a shot especially if you have a NP on hand.
chromecast
unofficial mecool android tv box or other box that runs full android. the mecool box gets ok reviews but isnt a registered google product as far as i know. the boxes that come from china with full android tend to be under powered. do some homework before you buy if you go that route.
roku, amazon fire tv, or apple tv
wait for xiaomi to push another most likely broken update.
contact xiaomi to see if they will replace your current box. wait for the RMA slip, mail off your box, wait for them to ship you a replacement. possibly another mibox 3 or a new mibox S.
take a crap. unplug the hdmi cable from the back of the mibox. plug hdmi cable directly into the turd you just crapped out. enjoy a similar mibox tv experience.
