I'd Like To Spend Under $2000 (Negotiable) On An Android TV, Here Are Features I'd Like (Also Negotiable If I Can Be Convinced) I'd Appreciate Some Help <3

by legosexual

So one thing I'd also like help with is a TV wall mount that can allow me to keep the TV up against the wall but also pull it out and face it at another angle. I live in a studio so this kind of utility would be huge for me.

  • I'd love 240 herts or fps or whatever, I just want the image to really pop

  • 4k

  • Ability to wake the TV up with voice command? Is this a thing?

  • Ability to completely use the TV as my google home device, but I'll be getting other home devices as well.

*Ability to wirelessly use it as a monitor (don't need this but it would be cool)

Is Sony Bravia the hot brand to go with?

I'm obviously a little ignorant here but I'd love any suggestions or help anyone has to offer. Sorry if this isn't an original request post, if there are others that answer most of my questions please direct me.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Buy a high end TV and a ShieldTV as your AndroidTV device.

Look at the reviews for any of these tvs they are underpowered slow to get updates ect. Best advice is to get a nvidia shield and the best picture on a tv you can find in your budget. Don't worry about the smarts in the tv they get left behind by the manufacturers. Just a little googling will confirm what I have said so feel free to do your research.

  1. No matter how high it's refresh rate is your movies will still be 24p regardless. Motion Handling and Soap Opera Effect will vary by TV but I hear Sony's X900F has very good motion handling.

  2. Waking up a TV with a command? A lot of Android TV's have a feature that allows waking them up with Casting or Control for HDMI. (CEC)

  3. Sony TV's have Google Assistant Built-in, not sure about other devices. Nvidia's Shield probably has this.

Here's my two cents: if you like ease but a slower user experience, go with a Sony AndroidTV, especially newer ones (F-series or higher) If you're looking for more reliable streaming over a local network and a snappier experience then go with Nvidia's Shield TV and then get a TV that matches your preferred panel.

Sony x900f has everything you want but is 120hz. It has bad viewing angles but the image quality is insanely good and if you have a mount you can move around that shouldn't be an issue at all.

I giggled like a little child when I told google assistant on my phone to turn my TV on and the TV actually immediately turned on.

Like others said it's not as fast or powerful as a SHIELD, the shield doesn't support HDR.

P.s the shield also supports 120hz max.. not an expert but do real 240hz TV's even exist?

If you want to use android on your TV to game, use emulators etc you should definitely get something like the shield. But the Android on the x900f is.more than enough to control your TV, make it search/ play movies or music etc etc.

P.s. you can get the TV around a 1000/1300$ now (55") which will not only give you a nice big TV but leave you a lot of money to buy a pro console, mount, sound system etc.

Sony ->> unless you buy the expensive 2019 "Master Series" = slow Android TV if they are running the Android Nougat OS. An Oreo OS update might speed these slow TV's up a bit.

Really underpowered old Chipsets used on the current Nougat OS - Sony TV's.

Sony is really slow at doing OS updates and they include extra crap on their TV's like the Spyware App Samba that further cripples the TV.

Only buy Sony for the picture quality & motion handling. Not Android TV.

LG's WebOS on it's OLED's like the C8 is a lot more polished if you want to use Apps on a 4K HDR TV, it has Amazon Alexa & Google Assist voice support.

If you really want Android TV, get a NVIDIA Shield. That will get much better Firmware and Android TV OS support vs anything else Android.
