Changing Screensaver on Philips Smart TV (Android 7)

by LifeOnLars

I recently bought a Philips 65OLED873/12, updated to Android 7 (no Oreo available yet).

Is there a way to disable or change the floating Philips logo screensaver? I've tried for several but no matter what I do it still defaults to the logo.

I've tried changing the Screensaver options under Settings > Android Settings > Screensaver but no matter what I choose there they're ignored and the logo screensaver persists. I also tried installing the Backdrop app and Slideshow for Picasa but since the screensaver settings are overridden by the Philips logo screensaver they don't work either.

I have a Sony TV with Android as well and there are no issues switching the screensaver/daydream on that.

As far as I am aware you can't, I'm in pretty much the same boat with my Philips TV. I found that if you fiddled around with the screensaver settings in the Android settings and installed the Backdrop Daydream app and set that to come on sooner than the default Philips screensaver it didn't respect any currently playing media and would just kick-in while you were watching the TV.

I actually contacted Philips customer support with this very issue back in October and just got the response that there was currently no way to change any of the screensaver settings and they would feed back my suggestion of using the screensaver settings in the Android settings (if set) to override their screensaver. I wouldn't hold my breath on this actually happening though.

Sorry to be the barer of bad news :(
