Replacing Roku

by 20181010419

Our oldish roku has been turdtacular since day one. I'm finally getting ready to replace it.

I'm looking for:

-Some replacement/equivalent for roku's "private listening"... a headphone jack on the remote or reliable bluetooth.

-Amazon Prime support (included if possible, but I'll hack it in if necessary)

-Chromecast built in

-Google assistant built in (remote is fine)

-Not a dealbreaker but I'd love to have some storage for a handful of home videos. USB is fine (preferred). I have a plex server, but it's almost never running these days and nobody seems to care.

That's it. I don't care about resolution...1080 is absolutely fine and even 720 would do.

The shield seems like overkill (price and function), and it sounds like the current remote doesn't do private listening.

Mibox S sounds promising, but I'm not sure what the audio situation is and it seems like I'd have to be pretty hands on to troubleshoot it and get prime running?

I'm not interested in any of the amazon devices, and I don't want to roll the dice on another roku.

Any advice?

Shield is on sale and has a headphone jack on the gaming controller. It has been out for 5 years and still has strong development support.

I've had a Mibox for a year. No issues. Some talk about Jetstream box from Walmart. Hope you can step into a box that suits u..

I've recently been using the Mi Box S, and it's worked fine with my bluetooth headphones. Definitely not ideal for it here since I'm on 2.4ghz wifi with nearby neighbors.

New user though, so take that as you will. I wanted to get a Shield TV, but $40 was an easier impulse purchase since I was about to just buy a wireless trackpad/keyboard for my PC for about the same price.
