Mibox 3 died yet again....this time fully bricked. The old trusty NP died recently too. I'm getting by on a Chromecast right now and trying to decide if I want to go firestick, Shield, or Jetstream. Either way I have to wait until after the holidays. So which way to I go folks? Shield? I kinda like the idea of games. Jetstream? Not a bad price. Amazon? Totally new ecosystem...
I'm late to the party and just bought a shield with controller last week after having a mibox 3 since launch. My verdict? Bite the bullet and buy a Shield. It does everything better plus geforce now is a sweet bonus. Ultra Street Fighter IV for free? Count me in.
I hear some complaints about the remote but after disabling the double tap volume slider to play/pause feature, it works fine. A volume rocker would be preferable but it is in no way a deal breaker.
Shield and or 4k firestick. Done.
shield has no competition. if you aren't cheap buy one.

Shield. Just got one and I'm really impressed with it (I also own a mibox3). The GeForce now stuff is pretty cool. I played tomb raider and my kid played fortnite. Both are super smooth like native gaming. Some other games reportedly don't work as well but that may be isolated to them. The UI is much quicker and more responsive than the mibox3. Plus the Amazon apps are there in the play store if you want to go that way.
Don't buy one. They have an unbelievably short lifespan.
Firestick. Runs Android so you can sideload apps. I know everyone loves the Shield but I'm not paying that much for a box. Period.
If you can swallow the price, Shield hands down.
