Any LeEco tv owners in here?

Anyone still enjoying their LeEco Super 4 tv? Since there aren't any upgrades, have you moved on to an external device like the Shield or Mi Box?

I'm still using mine but I wish the OS made it 7.0 so I can record from Live Channels. Also wish the YouTube app would quit crashing, causing me to reboot.

I also have the a LeEco Super 4 (X55) and while I do wish someone would develop an update, in it's current state it was a $250 well spent.

I have found some lovely work arounds for some issues I've have so I will gladly share them.

  1. Turn off auto-updates from the play store. Only Manually install things as things can get screwed up really easily *cough*YouTube*cough*Nest.

  2. To get YouTube running again you are going to need to sideload a slightly older version. Currently v2.02.14 is the only one that seems stable. Luckily alot of the updates recently seem to be implement server side so you will get all the new UI goodness. So go into Settings>Apps, find the YouTube app and Uninstall the Updates. Download the APK here (from APK Mirror) and load in onto a flash drive and install it on your TV.

  3. Alot of apps dont actually update for some strange reason. The google play store, Google Play Movies, Google app, and Live Channels are among some of them. You can head over to APK Mirror again and compare the version #. I've updated the Google Play Store which gave me the new security scan thing, Google Play Movies which glitches less often and doesn't down sample 4K, the Google app which gave me access to the Google Assistant and Improved voice search and Live Channel which gave me a slightly cleaner UI and access more app integrations.

  4. If possible run an ethernet cable to the TV if possible. A metric shit ton of the crashes and lock ups I experienced disappeared.

  5. Installing the 3rd Party App store Apitode TV gives you access to some dope apps as well as access to app versions making it easier to downgrade if you experience an issue. However, I find that a lot of the apps are mislabeled, so its a real hit or miss. But it's also a nice to have.

If you have any other issues that I dont remember off hand, I am sure I have solved it at some time so ask away.

I still use my Super 4 x65 on the stock US firmware. It works so-so, mostly just an occasional freeze it bug with Plex. I've almost bought a Shield so many times, if not just for the Amazon Prime channel, but other than that, the TV works okay.

Also, like you, the YouTube and YouTube TV apps crashing are seriously maddening.

Yep I have an X43 in the bedroom. Some digging on XDA I've seen that there are guides to move to newer Chinese firmwares, but those bring other complications that you must be ready to overcome. Though no actual show stoppers.

Some non-android questions...

How do you know what apps or inputs run in HDR on the model and how do you know you're in that mode?

Does multi-channel audio work through ARC? How about from the 3 other HDMI inputs? If I plug a blu-ray drive or HTPC into hdmi 2 will that output 5 or 7.1 through ARC into my reciever?

I'm here to echo pretty much the same sentiments; this TV bugs the shit out of me, but for the $250 I paid for it, I know I have no right to complain.

I bought it thinking "Eh, it's an Android, even if it never gets an official OTA update again, SOMEONE will keep it updated." But my hopes of that are pretty near 0% at this point.

For those considering it, I have updated the TV to Chinese firmware, and firmly (no pun intended) do not recommend it. It's a fucking hassle, and once you finally do get it remotely working, you lose a lot of the actually good features (Netflix 4K, Chromecast, etc). And switching back was even more obnoxious.

If this TV could just get Prime Video and a custom launcher (fucking bloatware), I'd be 100% in love with it. But dang, does it do it's job and then some.
