Can't display 4K on Mi Box S ($40 from Walmart)

by Jason90405

Truly disappointed. Initially the box only detects 720P from my TV. When I manually change it to 4K 60p, it still looks 720p.

Netflix Ultra 4K HDR videos has HDR logo on it but not Ultra 4K. The playback has HDR but looks 720p fuzzy.

Youtube 4K videos says 4K but again looks 720p. It does not detect HDR, just like the Shield.

Anyone else having the 4K display issue like mine?

The dpi will remain the same, don't expect icons to become smaller when you switch from 720 to 4k.

Use netflix test patterns (search for it on netflix) to check, it sound like it's doing 4k.

Netflix Ultra 4K HDR videos has HDR logo on it but not Ultra 4K.

Netflix will only show one or the other, if you see the HDR logo, the show is also 4K. If you only see Ultra HD (or 4K whatever it is) then the show is not in HDR.

What kind of Internet speed do you have?

Netflix, Youtube and pretty much every other streaming app will downgrade the resolution if you aren't getting enough bandwidth.

If you're using wifi, it's best if you use a 5ghz band, if you have one, but I'd recommend using a usb ethernet dongle.

On my MiBox S I can get full 4KHDR, and it doesn't look fuzzy. (Some of the home menu icons are fuzzy, but that's just because those graphics are often low res.)

Try playing a 4k youtube video and going to the options and turning on the 'stats for nerds' (looks like a bug). That will show you in real time what resolution you're getting and the bitrate it's managing to get.

Mibox is terrible at 4k, mine for some reason decrease the quality instead of going to 1080 or 720.

Make sure u are not using a super old HDMI cable.

Some TVs show u display info from source on screen like 72060fps, 1080p60fps, 4k60fps etc. Check that.

Then search 4k on Youtube app on MiBox S. Play the video, in the option on left side make sure 4k is checked.

Then there is an icon which says "stats for nerds" on the right side to the play icon while video is playing on youtube, click that and see what the output is.

What model TV don you have?

Try turning off HDR Mode as hdmi can't display HDR and 4k at the same time .

No HDR and 4k are not the same Resolution .
