Since updating to 8.0, I can't write to the kodi folder on my USB drive. Is there a workaround to let kodi write to the USB drive?
I've tried setting up USB again but to no avail. I may even consider setting it up the USB drive as device storage but then I can't connect it to the computer anymore to transfer any files. Also, I'm not sure what happens if you disconnect a USB drive that is set up as device storage (May mess up the system if disconnected?).
If you setup a USB device as "adoptable storage" (also called device storage), the original on-board removable storage becomes part of "internal storage" and won't be accessible within file browser anymore. "/sdcard" will point to that USB device from now on. You can move some apps between "internal storage" and "adoptable storage" under app settings. Some apps can only be installed to "internal storage" and can't be moved. I don't know if this is the same for rooted device.
If you later eject that USB device, apps that don't need to use "/sdcard" will still work if they are installed/moved to "internal storage" (Netflix being one of them). Some apps will refuse to work unless you plug in that USB device again. Kodi is unfortunately one of them. It will be stuck at "Waiting for external storage..." if "adoptable storage" is ejected.
