Should i buy a Chinese version of Xiaomi Mi box and try to convert it to an international version?

by Cyrus_Omerta

So basically a guy is selling a Mibox 3 for quite cheap, one catch - its the chine ui with no app store and nothings in english.

What makes this difficult is google play is not on these versions and i am not that familiar with tweaking android boxes but boy can i follow a guide and tinker!

Is there any hope of getting this Mi Box to operate just like an international one? If so how?

Unless price is your number one priority or you want a hobby project I wouldn’t even attempt it. The boxes are already relatively cheap and the savings likely aren’t worth the hassle.

Don't try, even if you are able to it won't have proper drm support.

You can change it to an international version easily. But Netflix seems not work correctly, at least mine doesn’t work.

The only acceptable models for users outside PRC are mdz16ab and mdz22ab.

I don't think this can be done, make. The Chinese version is basically an Android trashbox. As far as I know you can't flash an Android TV rom into a trashbox.

Yes, i did it

Mi Box S was $45 here in the US over the holidays, can't imagine it being much more where you live. Just buy that one don't mess with this Chinese version.
