Small Tiny Flash Drive For the Nvidia Shield

by great_yarn

Good evening <at the time of writing this>, morning and afternoon to everyone here.

I've jumped and bought an Nvidia Shield 2017 a few days ago, Thanks to this community. I've been enjoying it this past few days. I would like to ask some recommendations for a pendrive that's not too expensive. I was looking at a website by USB.userbench And I sort it according to write speeds. I was wondering if 100MB/s <I was looking at the SanDisk Ultra Fit 3.0> <it's only peak write speeds tho> would be sufficient for the Nvidia Shield as I'll be leaving the pendrive in it forever lol. <Idk if anyone does that> checking reviews on crystaldiskmark shows really slow write speeds for this product. But like, most pendrive makers don't usually put the write speeds on their products which I understand. So I was thinking of getting something in the neighborhood of RM100 <Malaysian Currency> Is there anyone who could recommend me in this price range? I'll use Lazada MY <it's an online shopping website in Malaysia> It's better if it's in a small factor. But if It's small factor compromises it's write speeds. Then I might just go for a normal sized ones. I also would like to know if write speeds actually matters if you're using in the Nvidia Shield. As far as I can think of, the pendrive would only be writing during installing apps, saving games etc, and some other things that I've not think before. Thanks for reading all of this if you've reached the end.

Any one would be fine. Get the best/fastest/smallest one you can afford. The biggest concern is the reliability, that it won't crash on you. As far as speeds, the difference between the fastest one and the slowest one will be minimal, and you won't notice for the things you're going to be doing.

I bought a shield a week ago and have ordered a sandisk extreme go 128gb flash drive.

If you are not mounting your Shield on the wall, you can also consider using a SSD. It may not be that small, but way faster than most USB sticks. Most people don't move TV box that often anyway. After comparing it with a 128GB SanDisk Ultra flash drive (slow writing speed and too hot) and a 1TB 2.5" mechanical drive with USB enclosure (spinning sound), I went with a 512GB WD portable SSD bought during clearance sale ( https://www.amazon.com/512GB-Passport-Portable-Storage-WDBK3E5120PSL-WESN/dp/B06XNPPRD9 ).

In US, you can get a 128GB internal SSD for $20~$25 (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=128gb+ssd ). USB 3.0 to 2.5" SATA III adapter costs only a few dollars.
