Nvidia Shield - Bluetooth Audio Volume

by igloohouse

Hey all,

I have had my Nvidia Shield TV a while now and I still can't figure out how to improve the Bluetooth audio volume increments.

Between around volume notch 5 and 6, there is a huge difference in volume. Is there a way to set a volume in between the 2?

Or is there a way to disable the Volume Control on the shield and do it via the speaker only? (Or don't allow the shield to control the Bluetooth volume?) I tried the "fixed volume" setting but this didn't seem to work.

Some insight would be good.

I'm using a UE Boom 2 speaker, so it can get loud and I'd rather keep it Bluetooth connected if I can.

Thanks!

I'm not familiar with the hardware you're using, but it sounds like you're dealing with gain staging issues.

The volume curve of your device is logarithmic and the Bluetooth audio signal output also (likely) uses a logarithmic curve. When the two 'peaky' sections of the logarithmic curves line up, you get a really significant leap between steps.

The rule audio engineers go by is try to only raise gain ONCE. Using this logic, I'd say set the speaker to the HIGHEST possible setting you're comfortable with with, then use the shield volume to set the listening volume. With the speaker near it's highest volume, you may find that the resolution of the Shield and the speaker will line up better.
