Solid Explorer has a separate FTP plug-in you can download. Use that on phone and connect to it using TV

Yeah I've done it. If not with Solid, with some others. But transfer speed is really slow...
I use solid explorer and use storage manager to make my Google Drive just another storage device on my MiBox S. This allows me to easily transfer files from PC or phone directly to my MiBox and install APKs directly from the GDrive without having to transfer the file itself.

It is easy to use, just install the application on both your TV and your mobile device.
Both devices have to be connected to the same Wifi network.

ES Explorer worked well for me
Use x-plore, it has a TV interface and once you set up a WiFi server and connect to it on your phone you can browse your phone's files in the x-plore interface on you mi box! It's super convenient, you just copy and paste between the devices really easy.
