I have had several casting issues with the mibox. Keep a chromecast as backup just in case.
I ve the previous mi box and never used my chromecast 2 on the tv i have the mi box on, my ISP had an android tv box that suxed so bad that i used the chromecast 2 on my 2nd tv but mi box is solid enough not to need the chromecast 2 as an alternative.

Chromecast 2 can be added to an audio group, so keep it for that nice feature. Android TVs cannot at the moment.
I have a Shield and while it works as a Chromecast it doesn't work fully as one. It sometimes doesn't process voice commands and won't let me do other certain commands like fast forward or skip to next episode on Netflix. It's handy for streaming video but for certain situations I still want a regular Chromecast on the same TV.
For me the casting part of the mi box has been stable and reliable but I would not see why not keep the chromecast around just as a backup.
