Had a chance to buy either for the same price but the S ended up being sold out so i quickly bought the second listing on ebay but turned out to be the original version. I know they are pretty much exactly the same except the remote and bluetooth 4.2. I just feel like I missed out on the "newer version", trying to justify keeping it and not wait till another S pops up. Any physical difference you liked over the newer version?
I did. I have both and S doesn’t passthrough truhd, atmos, dts hd and dts x. Only dd and dts. The 2016 mibox, dispite the well known problems, at least passthrough HD audio.

I used the S version till I realized that passthrough isn’t working and after got the confirmation that it is not working because the ICEthing, I put it away for a while and hooked back the old Mibox. Almost all the known problems are still there in S version, like the incapacite to auto change resolution and DD audio drop outs. I believe those drop outs r related to erroneous refresh rate. Btw, sorry for any mistake. English is not my first language.
The live tv button is handy for my room that doesn't have an antenna (tvheadend for broadcast TV) The infrared is great for my cinema where I use a harmony one remote.
Other than that I haven't noticed a difference.
My 2016 has a IR port while the S doesn't, that's a positive for me.
