Other people playing youtube and spotify on my bravia tv

by feitfan82

I live in a flat where this retard family upstairs cast their shit to my tv from time to time. Is there a way of making it impossible for them to do it? We share the same wifi.

Don’t share WiFi

Get yourself a travel router and set up your own LAN. Privacy and security are severely compromised if you share your LAN with dimwits. IIRC you can get one for under $30

This is a good one: https://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR802N.html

Settings > Apps > Google Cast Receiver > Disable

If they can cast to your TV, then you're on the same subnet, which means they have access to every device you connect to that network. I hope you don't mind them snooping on your other electronics, cuz they can do that too without being as conspicuous as casting content to your TV. That said, you also have access to their devices.

Download the Google home app and link your devices to your account. In the device settings turn off the option for others to control your cast media.

Get your own WiFi said/subnet

Since no one here will actually answer you without a pretentious assumption or one-up statement, in short: no. The Google Cast Receiver present in Android TV devices doesn't support the Google Home App's setting for "Let Others Cast To This Device", making it impossible to turn off, you'll receive one of two errors:

"Could not Communicate" on Android devices, and "Could not update Opt-In settings" on Apple devices.

Outside of making enough noise to get Google to actually update the ATV Cast Receiver (this issue has been present since the feature was introduced, so almost 2 years now), the only work around is to hide your devices on a different subnet via a middle man router between you and the network you're using, or disable the casting on the receiving device altogether.

On my tv, I have to hit accept for someone to cast to it.

The new YouTube app on Bravia requires the device to be linked to the TV, so update the YouTube app then they won't be able to cast yt videos.

Ask them nicely to not do it? If that fails cast some horrible shit at full volume to their tv... Cast wars!!

Who controls the router and does it allow for a guest network? If you have access to it and if it allows for a guest network you can set up your own network that you alone use.

Does the flat only have wifi or do you have access to ethernet? If you can connect to ethernet any old router will allow you to create a personal network. If you only have access to wifi I'd strongly recommend the TP-Link travel router earlier posted or the one I have. https://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR902AC.html

These travel routers make traveling with a lot of connectable devices so much more convenient. In your case it'd serve double duty because you can use it at home and if you travel you can connect it in your hotel and never even have to switch networks on any of your devices.
