Mibox s (70€) or new Amazon Fire Stick (40€)? Help from owners?

by RapeZz

I am looking for a device that I can watch Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, kodi (with add-ons) and cast my phone screen to.

The only devices that fit my needs are the two mentioned above but since I don't own any of these and don't know if they have any drawbacks or something I need some input.

I know youtube is not working on most fire sticks but my friend has the new one and he can cast videos from his phone. Also screen casting is difficult on the Amazon stick. The one I am looking into is coming out in about a week.

What scares me are the bad reviews on the mibox here in Germany.... But for me it looks like the better option.

Does anyone own these devices and can recommend me one?

Also is there any easy way to mirror your phone screen on the fire stick? The airscreen app is not the best solution...

Thanks a lot guys!

The fire stick UI is so bad compared to android tv. There is no comparison here.

I bought and used the Fire TV 4K Stick for just a couple hours, before i sold it 3 days after. It's super fast, and everything is fluent and runs smoothly. But i absolutely could not stand the interface which is riddled with ads. I had to scroll down 2-3 rows of ads just to navigate to my apps row, and this i had to do everytime i went back to the home menu. It's so cluttered, that i sometimes didn't even know what i was looking at.

No wonder they can sell the device at such a low price, they shove a bunch of ads right in your face, and try to steer you into paying for their content.

But if you don't mind an interface infested with ads, then the Fire TV 4K Stick is a great device. Otherwise i would look into the Mi Box or Nvidia Shield. The Mi Box has a couple bugs, but is overall a decent box if you have basic needs.

if you need Prime 4k you do not have a choice, at your budget it's the firestick. if you can live with 1080p Prime, then go for the Mibox, as it has the other stuff you need. good luck with the lottery

Europe, UK and Australiasia has to deal with 25/50 fps video frame rates. North America does not and can set 60hz on a Mi Box for video output and their North American sourced 29.97fps and 23.976fps content will playback correctly.

Consequently you need media player with auto Frame Rate Matching to deal with European AND N. American Frame rates.

The Mi Boxes do not currently have any support for auto Frame Rate Matching. The new FireTV Stick 4K does have some support.

The Mi Boxes have frankly awful Dolby audio support. It's a complete mess for 5.1 DD+ Audio from Apps like DD+ capable Netflix and Prime Video Apps.

I suggest you read this thread: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=336151

Seriously if Chromecasting is a must have requirement buy an actual Chromecast. Mirroring and casting will be a lottery with a Mi Box.

Lets put it this way. If the Firestick 4K had the Android TV interface it would be the best streaming device bar none. Proper Dolby support, Incredible HAMI CEC control, Automatic frame rate switching and excellent picture and sound. But that damn Amazon interface is just the pits.

Youtube is a non issue on the firestick 4k. The workaround is simple and works great.

Listen the Mibox is a great value compared to the shield. However, it just doesn't "work", not a good Wife Factor as compared to the firestick. If you can live with the god awful interface and want most apps, and you just want to use the remote to control a basic setup(TV and sounbar), it's not a fair fight.

Pros: Great price on sale Great remote but cheap remote. Superior HDMI CEC functionality and granular settings. Better Audio and Video support for most people. Automatic Refresh rate switching. Better Video quality. Far greater app support.

Cons Atrocious Amazon Ad infested interface. Not as much app freedom as an Android TV device,

I own then both in the US so ymmv between the two I would go mibox s that said if I where only going to have one streaming device it would be roku

Why don't you get both and return the one you like the least? Never mirrored anything to the Stick but when it comes to youtube there's a lot of options, like installing Smart Youtube TV for example. I own a Stick and just yesterday tried a Mi Box S, just going through the menus I felt like it was working in slow motion. Try it yourself.

Chromecast on the mibox works seamlessly. Kodi/Plex works great. Don't really use Netflix/Prime, so can't comment.

Afaik Fire Stick in Europe only supports 1080p, so I would go with Mi box if you can't afford the Nvidia Shield.
