Google Home able to Control Sony Android TV's Youtube TV

by draftylakeshore

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has successfully be able to tell their Google Home (I have the mini, FYI), "play NBC on Youtube TV" for a Sony TV with Android TV. I am able to do it with my dumb TV's via their Chromecasts in other rooms.

If I do it with the Sony with the built in Android TV /built in Chromecast, it says, "Ok, playing NBC on Youtube TV........Sorry, something went wrong. When you're ready, give it another try."

If I say, "Hey Google play Big Bang Theory" on Youtube TV while it's on the air, it will switch just fine, without even naming the channel. Once it's there, if I say, "Tune to CNN" or "Tune to NBC", it does the same thing....it says, "Ok playing NBC on Youtube TV....sorry, something went wrong..."

I'm also successful in saying "Hey Google, play Star Trek on Netflix" for this TV, by the way.

Is this function supposed to be supported?

For what it's worth, I have the Sony 49" X800E series.

A chromecast and chromecast built in(sony tv) do not have the same functionality sorry it really is stupid that google doesn't document this.

I spoke with Google today and tier 2 support said there is an ongoing issues with Sony Bravia Android TVs. A patch is supposed to be pushed out to Assistant devices once remedied.

Thanks for the responses. Although not great news, at least I know I'm not the only one seeing these issues, and I can stop spending time troubleshooting.

I was surprised that I could not find any mention of this on any help forums or in the documentation.

I have the same issue. However it worked the way it should for several months. I was able to ask Google home to play x show from YouTube TV on the TV and it would. And then suddenly in the past few weeks it just stopped. I also no longer have volume control via Google home on the TV. I can however cast Netflix and HBO now shows to the TV via Google home.
